At the start of June I was sitting in a training and the conversation came up about whether taking my 5 year to see the BFG was appropriate. I had no idea what the BFG was and while listening in on the conversation, I did what I normally do and googled it. The images seemed creepy and I pushed my phone over to my table mates to get a view.
After leaving the training that day, I had my mind made up that I wasn't even going to consider the movie again, and I didn't until... Two days later we were getting ready to go out for dinner, literally tying shoes and the trailer for the BFG came on, and you guessed it, Sky (my 4year old) says, "I want to see that movie". I explained to dad that I heard that a giant creeps into a little girl's bedroom takes her out of bed and takes her to giant land. A giant taking little kids out of their beds at night sounds creepy enough. Right?

The BFG
We made it to see the movie.Disney was able to make it a family movie. Everything that I heard about the giant snatching the little girl out of her bed one night was true. There were defiantly some creep parts, when my niece grabbed my arm and turned away from the screen. Sky spent most of the time on the edge of her seat asking questions. They both wanted to know was the Giant going to take Sophie back to her bed. The bottom line is that it wasn't too much for two preschoolers to handle. The movie was very appropriate, family oriented and thought provoking.
On the way out I asked the kids: What do think was the theme of the movie?
The 13 year old said: "No matter how big or little you are, you should have the courage to stand up for yourself".
The 10 year old said: "Dreams really do come true"
The 4 year olds: They don't understand theme yet, but we are working on their thinking.
Tell us what you think!
