Summer vacation started the second week of June and I am already trying to show my kids a good time on a Teacher's budget. I am going to share with you what we did already in hopes that you get some ideas or we see you out and about.
Here is what we did already (even though I already started my summer job):
Visited the Book Store:
We were headed to one of our favorite parks and it started to rain, so I had to think of somewhere else to go quickly. I remembered the days that I enjoyed with my oldest at the bookstore. So we drove to Barnes and Nobles. I let them play with some of the toys that they had out, like the Legos and the train table. Most important my oldest choose a book to read and I shopped for a preschool workbook for my preschooler and she picked out a Daniel Tiger book. We only spent $18, and we spent some valuable time together.
Visited the park:
The parks are always great free fun. My daughter's favorite is Howard Park in WPB, but I like the park in Palm Beach Gardens. Parks are cheap! We spent $0.
Visited an Indoor Playground:
Cool beans in Palm Beach Gardens was a blast for my kiddos. They were able to jump up and down on the trampoline, slide, dress up, and run and play. There was even an area for my toddler to explore age appropriate toys. We spent about $30 with my peppermint tea (that was a little pricey).
Visited a Local Waterpark:
Waterparks are tricky but important in Florida. It is hot, so everyone wants to get wet. The tricky part is that it rains every afternoon. You can tell when it is going to rain because it gets really hot. What is even tougher is telling the kids you are going to a waterpark and the rain is about to come and know they are going to annoy you if you don't go. So we went to Calyso Bay and the kids were in the water for about 45 minutes before the thunder and lightening. So I guess the visit was worth my $16.
So in just about a week's time I spent $64 on summer activities. The time and the coins were well worth it. So if you are looking for quick things to do in you city try the local waterpark, bookstore, indoor playground, and the park before sitting in the house all day.
